An English officer comes to ask an old soldier of Napoleon's for his daughter's hand in marriage. It's one of the Edison Kinetophone movies, the company's attempt to synchronize sound and film. While most of the others in the series were at least semi-musical shorts, this one is an exercise in pure histrionics. Because of the recording hiss and the stage accents, it was difficult to follow what William Bechtel was going on about.Edison produced a longer, silent version of the movie, starring James Young and his more famous wife, Clara Kimball Young. Contemporary reviews of that movie were very favorable.
