Two mischievous boys are finding pleasure in scaring the neighborhood kids by sending their dog to bark at them. The boys think of themselves as brave. One of the neighbors, quiet kind girl, doesn't get scared by the dog, instead she befriends him. The "brave" fellows find it extremely frustrating and keep trying worse tricks. They paint their doggie with stripes, thinking it would look more like a tiger. The dog feels abused and embarrassed to have to scare his new friend. The girl instantly recognizes the dog in the tiger costume. She laughs and pities the doggie. The "brave fellows" are mad at their dog for not playing the role well. It takes awhile to clean the paint off and the doggie gets sick from the paint and cold water. The girl buys some medicine for the doggie, and in spite of another attempt from the boys to put her down, brings it and feeds it to her new friend. The doggie feels grateful and follows the girl. The boys want to keep the dog and are trying to bribe it with candy, but don't succeed. The doggie knows who his real friend is.
