Axel Munthe is the Italian island Capri's doctor. A Robin Hood figure who charges the rich a lot so he can treat the poor for free. Victoria, the spouse of the Crown Prince of Sweden, needs a doctor and seeks out Axel. She is unhappily married and they fall madly in love.
