Two dirty ragged orphan children sit on stairs of an abandoned building entrance. The smaller boy (Alexi Charron) has one eye bandaged and eats food out of a can. The older girl (Ève Lemieux) smokes and reads a discarded magazine. A car on fire rolls by as three other orphans chase it. Music plays from an outdated boom box. The younger orphan dances to the music but then violently smashed the boom box against the pavement. To amuse themselves, they toss bottles off the highway embankment. The two youths pick open garbage near a dumpster finding soda and food One boy finds a tiger mass to play with. The city seems largely empty, No traffic moves. One boy throws a plastic container at the older girl. They wrestle again. They reach the roof of a vacant building as the sun starts to go down. They begin to seek a place for the night. Quietly, they pass by quietly a pack of dogs. They corner a dog in the alleyway and throw a brick at it. The dog chases them in the other direction. The older orphan makes it over the chain link fence but the younger boy is caught. As he leaps, there are wires at his throat. He accidentally hangs himself. The older girl throws boxes and garbage at the dogs to make them retreat but it's too late. The younger boy is dead. Moving on, the older orphan finds an abandoned car. She tries to siphon the gas tank and makes herself sick. What the car's cigarette lighter, she ignites a fire which burns the younger boy's body. She decorates the fence with scrap materials making ribbons and bows in a colorful display of remembrance. The surviving orphan continues down the street.
