CityZen is a documentary directed by Ruggero Gabbai, shot in 7 years. The story is focused on the neighborhood Zen of Palermo. It was constructed in 1969, under the design by architect Vittorio Gregotti, and it consists of bleak, multi-storied housing projects, most of which are in a state of dilapidation. As a result of rampant unemployment, poverty, high school drop-out rate and marginalization of the residents, ZEN has become notorious for its crime, juvenile delinquency, and social degradation. Nevertheless, Zen is a junction between stories and lives. In this neighborhood a garage becomes a hairdresser and an unusual meeting point. His citizens turn into characters, they tell stories about their everyday life, going through troubles, pain, joys and hopes. The district school represents a little light in this abandoned place. Every single citizen aims to find a job, working is the only real chance in their life to find the safe way to live instead trafficking, robbing and risking jail. The under construction process of the mall center has been shot among 5 years, initially the mall center was a light in the darkness for the citizens...
