Jian bu liu qing (1969)
Adventure • 1h 24m
It starts with the hero kills a man pictured on a wanted poster. After the credits and a few bars of "Old Turkey Buzzard"an escort is transporting a prisoner. The hero, two girls, and a gang are all following. The gang fights the escorts and though they released the prisoner it was to make him their prisoner. Our hero comes along and returns the prisoner to the escorts. The girls turn attention to our hero. They talk and then fight. He humiliates the girl in the fight. Meanwhile the escort arrives in town and stops to eat. They bring the prisoner wearing his cangue right into the tea house. Our hero tossed him a steamed bun. A new guy seems to overhear an important conversation. Everyone gets sleepy and it's lights out. The gang closes in on the tea house, followed by the two girls. The fight results in one girl injured and they all disperse with the escorts still having the prisoner. The new guy sends off a message by pigeon. Another new guy enters the story and he heals the injured girl. There is a lot of talking and nothing to advance the plot. Our hero is not even seen, the escort still has the prisoner and the girls and gang still want to nab him. That was the situation about 30 minutes ago too.My copy is a digital file. There are no subtitles and all dialog is in Chinese. I have reason to believe there is a version with fan subtitles out there. The video is that almost but not really widescreen deal and the quality is fine. The fights are the kind that show as little as possible to give an appearance of a fight. There are close ups that are too close, frequent cuts, and a lot of jumping around. The story lacks any kind of focus or continuity. New characters pop in halfway through and established characters are missing in action. Nothing really seems to have a point. This is a watch one time and forget it for me and I rate it below average for the year and genre.
