At 16 years of age, Nina is helpless with regards to her 4-month-old baby Jessie's incessant crying. Without any escape from the cries and from this new presence is her life, she ventures out from her tiny apartment in a working-class neighbourhood of Montréal for a brief escapade. A pilfered evening is her life buoy that allows her to be 'normal' again, if only for a few hours. Adolescent games, loud music and provocative encounters do not prevent Nina from hearing Jessie's resounding cries. It is a beneficial adventure that permits Nina, the child-mother, to better understand who she is.
