Polycarpe -- that's Charles Servaes -- encounters a painter in a museum. He strikes a funny pose and the painter decides he wants to paint that picture. However a succession of obstacles get in their way. Here's one of the Polycarpes that's a bit of all right, but only a bit. Yes the series of impediments does follow the classic pattern, tending to grow a bit with each iteration, before doubling back on itself. It's simply that the number of iterations indicates to me that this wasn't planned. It doesn't follow the Rule of Three or any of the classic structures. It simply keeps on going until they run out of film.Oh, I like to think that they knew a little better than that: that six minutes or one reel was all the film time they could devote to this one series of gags and have the audience sit still for it. So it's "keep coming up with variations enough for six minutes and then stop."
