The film is based on a manga, which is full of zombies, the film depicts three eras randomly and intermittently. In one era a mysterious virus is spreading which upon contact zombifies both humans and animals. Being bitten by a zombie makes you one too. In the second era the virus is everywhere around the world and governments are powerless to fight it. Everybody is fighting. In the third era the virus has stopped spreading for unclear reasons, yet the zombies remain everywhere and still need to be fought.
