From behind the lens of photographer Josh Lehrer, the compelling stories of five homeless transgender teens are told. Their backgrounds are diverse, but their stories are strikingly similar: Dismissed by their families and lured to New York City with the hope of finding connection and love, many of these kids instead find themselves rejected and homeless. At a time in their lives when they are at their most vulnerable, and most in need of protection and care, they are often exploited and left to navigate the treacherous waters of adolescence, trans self awareness, and life in New York on their own. As these five young people open up to the camera about their personal lives, "Becoming More Visible" will shed light on the difficulties they face, and prompt the larger culture to take responsibility for the outright dismissal of this population. The film will challenge audience members and society at large to consider what they are missing out on by not embracing and cherishing these incredible young people.
