Défilé de jeunes filles au lycée (1896)
Short • 0h 1m
Gabriel Veyre, a cameraman who roamed over the world for Lumiere, offers us a schoolgirl exercise in deportment. This one was probably shot in Mexico -- at least the IMDb says so and the tiny amount of information available makes it seem likely. It's a very formal study in motion as the girls, each holding a stick above her head, march and countermarch by the camera in some sort of a schoolyard. The deliberate order of this movie renders it less interesting to me than the more naturalistic pieces that the Lumieres were producing. Likewise, the competing lines of movement, each part of the deliberate pattern, is less engaging.
