Jean-Marie Hardouin, once notorious for his iron grip he exerted on his family, spends the last of his days in a chair in his son's house. He sees his adulterous daughter-in-law plotting to murder her children and husband. Jean-Marie is mute and cannot warn his family. Eventually, he gathers his strengths and strangles the daughter-in-law.
