Japanese television Nippon had invited Moomin Creator Tove Jansson to visit in 1970. Instead of round trip, Jansson asked for two one-way tickets, traveling with her friend Tuulikki Pietilä to Japan and from there to a round-the-world trip to Hawaii, Mexico, and the United States. In Tokyo, Jansson's Friend Pietilä bought the first film camera of her life and then the journey unfolds. It's so fun to see the real-life situations and scenarios bought to the screen. I was happy to spot some Indian god posters in the initial sequences. The clips are based on the artists' own railings, drawings, and Tove Jansson also reads excerpts from her short story "Journey with Konica" from the collection "Fair Play". This is how twenty hours of film material was created, of which director Kanerva Cederström was excited to make her own version twenty years later. In the film, Pietilä and Jansson live the journey again and laughing. I have to say that Tove Jansson's enthusiasm, sketches and her presence made this an absolute joy to watch. I would highly recommend Travelling with Tove to the Moomins fans around the globe.
