A youngster tells of how she and her widowed father left their home and came to Canada in this short cartoon by Joe Chang for the National Film Board of Canada. It's a good story, but it is offered in the antiquated 'illustrated text' style of film-making that rarely suits the medium. It tells the audience what is going to happen, and then shows them. While it does well for that technique, in that it offers the emotional context of each scene, and then shows how that is achieved, its impact on me was muted, and its overly sentimental subtext are things that rarely appeal to me.
