Assassinat de Kleber (1897) This is a rather fascinating scripted film from the Lumiere company. General Kleber arrives in a small town where when he's not looking another man comes up and stabs him in the back. The General falls to the floor, the man with the knife is grabbed and the film ends. That's pretty much what happens in this movie, which is very fascinating to watch today because it's another early example of the Lumiere company trying to do something other than an actuality picture. The drama is actually well-staged here as we see actors on a set. One by one the people enter the set up until the attack happens. If you're a fan of these early pictures then you'll certainly enjoy this one. It's certainly not the work of Griffith but for its era it's pretty good.
