Monza, L.L. M.M. le Roi et la Reine d'Italie (1896)
24 Dec 1896 • Documentary, Short • 0h 1m
The King and Queen of Italy descend stairs arm in arm. They enter a carriage and the carriage leaves. They are dressed very well, but they wear clothing that any well-to-do couple might on their way to the theater or to an elegant party. The motion pictures did not just bring exotic locations to their audiences. They brought people whom their audiences might never see and rendered them human and as a result, ordinary. Can any sort of organization that depends on the belief that one human is superior to another survive? If the King of Italy is a man who wears good clothing and lives in a nice house, then is it the house or the man, and what is it about either that renders him competent to be king?
