Budapest, cortège de la Couronne (1896) In 1896 the Lumiere Brothers took their show on the road. They sent their cameras out to various locations and made actuality films, which were basically just movies that captured a part of life as it was then. This one here takes place in Budapest and once again we get a camera stations on the street and we basically see what happens for a little over thirty-seconds. As I've said throughout countless reviews of these films, there's nothing ground-breaking going on and this clearly didn't change film history but at the same time it's fascinating getting to see how these locations looked at the time. We get to see several horse-drawn carriages as well as people just walking around enjoying life. I'm sure no one would have guessed that people would still be watching this footage a hundred years later.
