11 Aug 1935 • Drama • 1h 14m
Sachiko Chiba is the daughter of a cosmetics manufacturer. She is a modern girl who works because she wants to as a kindergarten teacher, who entertains her charges with stories and songs. She gets roped into performing on the radio and becomes a celebrity. Sadao Maruyama is a test pilot for his father's airplane manufacturer. They fall in love, but their fathers quarrel over women having a career. In other words, it's a standard romantic comedy of the era, with the changing views of the era on display. There are also a couple of real radio personalities of the era. I don't know any of them, but one of them is said to be a former benshi, now a movie critic for the radio, Raiyû Ikoma. Just as many movies about the industry in the US would have radio personalities for the audience to enjoy, this was a similar item in this Japanese movie. The result is a standard, well produced movie under the direction of Shigeo Yagura, whose known career fan from 1933 to 1939 and a dozen films.
