Livjægerne paa Amager (1906)
Documentary, Short • 0h 2m
Viewed without music (well, that's not strictly true: the other half's watching X Factor on the box while I watch this on the laptop, but that doesn't really enhance the viewing experience) this early Danish film produced by the doughty stalwart Peter Elfelt comes across as a bit of a comedy really, although that clearly wasn't the intention. We see three dancers from the Danish Royal Ballet: Hans Beck, Valborg Borchsenius (Guldbrandsen) and Ellen Price perform a pas de trio with no lack of energetic enthusiasm, but also with a strangely music hall effect, as if they're dancing a sea shanty. They also grin like loons, which is a little disturbing although, in their defence, they were no doubt accustomed to dancing in much larger areas than Mr. Elfelt's tiny studio.
