Joyce's Strategy (1916)
14 Mar 1916 • Short, Drama
Little Joyce is the only child of Mr. and Mrs. Reynolds, who are separated. Joyce lives with her mother in a plain little home. One night Mrs. Reynolds becomes ill. Joyce is frightened and running out into the street stops the first passing automobile. Unknown to her she is pleading with her own father to help save her dying mother. Mr. and Mrs. Reynolds are reunited, but not reconciled. Sometime later Reynolds asks his wife to allow Joyce to come and live with him in his gorgeous home. His request is granted, and Joyce unwillingly goes to live with him. She is unhappy and finally strikes a plan to bring her parents together. She and her chum, Eddie, tell their scheme to the doctor who agrees to do his part. Joyce besmudges her face with mud and tears her clothes into shreds, then the doctor drives up to her home carrying her in his arms. He tells Reynolds a street car ran over her, and there is little chance for her recovery. Reynolds sends for her mother. When they are brought together, Joyce asks them to make her happy before she dies by reuniting. Reynolds takes his wife in his arms as Joyce jumps out of bed crying, "I'm not hurt at all, we just fixed up the story with the doctor."
