Amazon Jail 2 (1987)
Adventure, Crime, Drama • 1h 14m
This movie begins with several people dancing on a beach in Brazil when men suddenly appear out of nowhere and and take four of the female dancers into captivity. As it turns out the men are sex-slave traffickers and one of these female prisoners (played by Vanessa Alves) just happens to be the princess of the tribe. In any case, having abducted these women the traffickers then communicate with their boss who arranges for them to be sent by air to a rich Japanese man living in an isolated part of South America. However, once the women get aboard the airplane the pilot and his assistant decide to help them escape when they land at a secluded location by overpowering the guards and then running with them into the dense Amazon jungle. Unfortunately, the leader of the traffickers doesn't give up easily and he convinces his men to follow him into the jungle in order to get them back. Now rather than reveal any more I will just say that this film had some possibilities but the director (Conrado Sanchez) wasn't quite up to the task. For starters, there were several scenes involving snakes and big jungle cats which kept being repeated but failed to accomplish anything of importance as none of these scenes were in the least bit scary or suspenseful. Likewise, the decision to make this film into a comedy was equally ill-advised as there really wasn't much humor to be found either. In short, except for possibly the presence of Vanessa Alves, there honestly isn't much here to recommend and I have rated this movie accordingly.
