A bantamweight boxer has moved to Toonerville with his sissy-looking but well-trained son. When he gets into a dispute with Mickey (Himself) Maguire, nothing will settle the matter but a meeting in the squared ring.Mickey Rooney had been in the movies for a year already, and here he is, starring in this spin off of the Toonerville series, based on the outrageously silly and popular comic strip. Mr. Rooney is completely recognizable, with many of the same expressions he used in his roles over his lifetime -- and the release of his last credited movie in this year means that his movie career will have extended over 92 years. Let's take a moment to think about that. It's a record that won't be broken soon. It's not a great movie, but it's funny in its own deliberately cartoony fashion. If you're familiar with the original strip, you'll appreciate its attempt to be so. If not, you'll enjoy the chaos. And if not, you'll enjoy Mickey Rooney, Himself, in his first act.
