The Ten Commandments Number 8: Thou Shalt Not Bear False Witness (1995)*** (out of 4)Another good entry in Phil Mulloy's series has Nathan marrying Emmy Lou at the age of eighteen after years of taking abuse from his parents. On his 40th birthday he begins to look back on his life and realizes it was fully of misery and the only place to reach happiness is when he's asleep and dreaming. Fans of Mulloy should find enough humor in this short to make it worth viewing. As I've often said, Mulloy's style of animation might appear crude but it's actually very fitting to the subject matter and you really do feel as if it weren't for the movies looking like this then even the best wouldn't have worked so well. What I enjoyed most about this film is how Mulloy gets his message across about the commandment without having to be preachy or put it out there in big bold letters. I won't spoil the message or how it's given but it was handled very nicely and it will certainly leave a smirk on your face. The highlight has to be the dream sequence when both parties reveal what they really want to do with their lives but never do it. I'm sure those easily offended might object to some of the humor but fans of Mulloy should enjoy it.
