The Ten Commandments Number 1: Thou Shalt Not Adore False Gods (1994)** (out of 4) The first film in director Phil Mulloy's ten-part series takes a look at the downfalls of adoring false gods. Our main character is constantly trying to become a wiz at the piano and will do whatever it takes to become one. Then we finally learn that he worships Mozart and this doesn't sit too well with the higher one. If you're familiar with the director's "Cowboys" series then you're going to notice that our main guy here is basically drawn in the same way as the previous series. The animation is quite crude but it's trademark of Mulloy's and I'm certainly not calling it that as an insult as the images quite often fit their subjects. The problem with this film is that the comedy just isn't there. There wasn't a single second where I actually laughed and at five-minutes I thought the film was a bit too long in getting to its punchline at the end. Fans of the director will want to check this one out but that's about it.
