Dance-O-Rama (1963)
14 Apr 1963 • Comedy, Musical, Romance
Easily one of the most memorable classics from the early sixties, this movie was a staple for afternoon viewing for many years, even decades. And it continues to age well, barely showing any dated notions if not for the fashions of the era. This might as well be the best Filipino movie about dance crazes. Perennial villain Zeny Zabala shines while showing her dancing prowess as well in what could have been another early 60s Susan Roces movie. The story revolves around a popular TV contest during that era, participated in by a gang of dormitory girls led by Susan Roces. And then there are their requisite band of suitors, led by a squeaky clean looking Jose Mari Gonzales. Sparks fly between Roces and Zabala- the girl favored by the dormitory owner - in their rivalry for Gonzales. Special appearances include a very young and thin German Moreno as Susan Roces dancing partner. On the dance floor, Zeny Zabala is paired with the very funny veteran actor Venchito Galvez. The rest of the fine cast is easily a roster of soon to be famous stars of the late sixties and early seventies. Watch out for Rosemarie, Bert Leroy Jr., and the late Loretta Marquez among others.
