Mr Dutilleul invites his boss to dinner at his home, expecting to create a good enough impression to get a promotion. Before he arrives, his wife dismisses her maid. Finding the crisis at home, Dutilleul goes out to buy cigarettes. Meanwhile, Mr Pavillon arrives, takes Mrs Dutilleul for a maid (as she wearing an apron over the dress), and neither she, nor her husband, tell him the truth.
