It would be a pity to let a film of such exquisite delicacy pass without comment. La FEMME PAPPILLON de V. is superior digital animation in an area where excellence is common. It has a story which is a kind of variation on PINOCHIO with the character wanting to liberate the elegant butterfly dancer marionette but the design is, as might be expected, more important. The figures move in a field of strings running down a black ground and the doll man hero, with his single strand of wick hair, is transported by her paper butterflies till he is able to find the giant wooden scissors. The back stage area is a striking burst of colour in this austere scheme. The technical aspects are more than adequate. This appears to be the maker's first film. It would be interesting to see what comes next.
