Slippery Slim is in love with Sophie Clutts. He is also postmaster of Snakeville, so when Sophie decides to give a party in honor of her I8th (?) birthday, Slim gives the Parson his invitation, but holds the others back. On the night of the big Snakeville society event, Slim and the Parson are the only ones at the party, so Sophie consents to be Slim's wife. The nest day, Slim delivers the delayed invitations and the boys all go, as they think, to Sophie's birthday party. They all faint as Sophie introduces Slim as "My Husband."
