"Sappy Service" is a very late silent film. However, whoever posted it to YouTube added a musical score (Scott Joplin's "Maple Leaf Rag").In the story, Dr. Huff is beating up process servers. While he doesn't mind that his wife is divorcing him, he feels he's too busy to go to court. Additionally, he's informed the hospital staff to NOT allow any of these process servers in the place. Unfortunately, Bobby (Bobby Vernon) is instructed to serve this angry doc. So, Bobby tries several tricks to try to get his job done...and ultimately he manages NOT to have the crap knocked out of him! To find out how, watch the film. This is a pretty clever and funny film. I've seen a few other Vernon comedies and this one from Al Christie/Paramount stacks up well against them. I think the gags are pretty clever and the film has a very high pace which means even if one gag doesn't go over well, another is soon coming! Overall, an exceptionally clever film...one that leaves you wanting more.
