Because of his experiences in the Great War, Charley Chase cannot touch a woman, even to shake her hand, without going into conniptions. His fiancee, Carmen Guerrero, wants him cured, but the doctor chosen insists on various unlikely techniques. It's the Spanish-language version of Chase's GIRL SHOCK. Before subtitling was perfected, it was common to produce versions of the same movie in different languages. Hal Roach did so for his biggest series, Laurel & Hardy, and Chase, often expanding their short subjects into short features for the greater revenue that would afford.Miss Guerrerro is a good comedienne, and she played the same role in the English-language version (but not the French version, "Timide malgré lui") Because Chase is reading his lines phonetically, the pacing and fun is slowed a touch, and because two of the major supporting characters -- Edgar Kennedy as Miss Guerrerro's father, and Jerry Mandy as the doctor -- are played by different performers, the snap of these longtime collaborators is missing. But it;'s still got some great gags.
