The movie gives an accurate picture of peasant uprising in the eastern part of Si-Chuan province. This part of the history was long been ignored because the leader later defected to the enemy, and during the Cultural Revolution, many who participated in the uprising were persecuted simply because at the time, they were the subordinates of the traitor. This part of the history was consequently ignored until the reform.
