Radha (Suchitra Sen), a nurse at a mental hospital, is asked by the head doctor (Pahari Sanyal) to try an experimental technique with a somewhat amnesiac, depressed inmate (Vasant Choudhury) - she has to pretend to be in love with him to bring him back to normal. However, she cannot help but fall in love with him and become guilt-ridden over her duplicity.
