Save the Lady (1981)
28 Dec 1981 • Adventure, Comedy, Drama • 1h 15m
This teeny weeny budget family film is a lovely entry into the 'messing about in boats' school of entertainment. The Lady of the title is a superb old ferry rescued and entered in a spectacular ferryboat race which is the exciting climax of this well intentioned fun pic. Released independently in the school holidays in the early 80s and produced by a family of film makers/ unit in Sydney, SAVE THE LADY deserves a place among the family dvds along with other Oz pix like BMX BANDITS and RUN REBECCA RUN. Actor Wallas Eaton is a lot like Australia's answer to Edward Everett Horton. It is the usual greed vs heritage story about the ferry and it is all presented with constantly entertaining incidents kids will relate to and learn from. SAVE THE LADY shows what can be done with good intentions and a great prop: the ferry itself. Incidentally the ferry is still a feature, sailing about on Sydney harbour. Enjoy!
