Now firmly under Communist Party leadership, following the direction of Chairman Mao Zedong, China must pursue the security of economic strength in order to support its enormous population. Rarely seen footage is used to illustrate the changes the country must undergo to feed its people and still adhere to strict party doctrine. Mao's Great Leap Forward resulted in a terrible famine.
