Max Linder is spending a holiday at the seaside, and reaches his hotel at the same time as a charming unknown. Their respective rooms adjoin. They put their footgear outside their doors at the same moment. The boots, during the night, change places, and, when sought by their owners in the morning, Max's left boot is by the side of his fair neighbour's, and vice versa. Max and the lady go for an early constitutional, and Max sits down to sketch on the rocks, while the lady, engrossed in a book, sits on a seat above; their boots, however, persist in playing uncanny pranks. At last Max's left boot, without any help, leaves him altogether, and goes scampering up the rocks, with Max climbing wildly after it. At the same moment the charming stranger's left boot mysteriously leaves her, and runs gaily down the path, with the owner in excited pursuit. Finally, the boots and their owners meet, and, wondering much, the latter sit down to put the former on again. Then Max and the lady exchange a smile, and the next moment they exchange a kiss. Cupid scores, for the result is a wedding a few months later.
