Jeanne Marnax gets a letter from papa, and this lovely little device that looks like a tall, skinny beaker with water in it. If someone has been cheating, says the letter, it will turn black. SHe and Max agree that they don't need it, since neither hould think of cheating on the other, so let's keep it around for a laugh.Ha, and another, bitter ha. I looked at this in a Pathe-Baby cutdown, half a reel from the original two reels of this Max Linder short. The presentation, as it exists, is rather black in humor, and one gag sequence, in which Max is sliding across the parlor floor, appears without context. A lot can be inferred about what goes on in the missing sections, given the proclivities of the many better- preserved short of this brilliant comedian. But it's all guess work.
