In the early 1930s, Benny Rubin made quite a few comedy shorts. Later in his career he'd be known more as a character actor. Regardless, he was a veteran of stage, vaudeville, movies and television. Here in "The Messenger Boy" he plays, you guessed it, a messenger boy. Apparently he's not just supposed to deliver messages but kids...and he's asked to take an obnoxious brat somewhere. Soon, the kid drives poor Benny crazy....doing such things as yanking out the emergency brake and the gear shift! Unfortunately, the cop who pulls him over doesn't believe such a cute kid could do all the things Benny tells him he did! When they continue, the kid seems excited about the prospect of them having a terrible accident! Does poor Benny stand a chance with this monster??While I'd never consider this a cerebral film, it is pretty funny watching the little brat in action. And, later, you get to see Benny pretending to be a lady...and again, it's kind of dumb...but funny.
