Outside Out (2000)
This movie forever changed my guitar style and enlightened me to the musical genius of the Colonel Bruce Hampton, Ret. Perhaps known best by his jazz-blues-rock improv meltdowns with the Aquarium Rescue Unit. Col. Bruce lends us insight into his musical philosophy via the medium of a student teacher relationship with a beginning folk guitarist, who under the (mis-)direction of Hampton unlearns everything he's learned on guitar so far (never use you third finger, you don't have to vomit but only the threat of vomit, making sure the tuning pegs are lined up straight) meets his country music idol played by Bass Aficonado Mike Gordon, and avoids military school and gets on the van. Any fan of cinematic weirdness, or strange music, or Mike Gordon's understated sense of humor will appreciate this classic.
