Seelische Grausamkeit (1962)
05 Nov 1963 • Drama • 1h 33m
I haven't seen 'Seelische Grausamkeit' (which I guess translates to 'Mental Cruelty'), and it doesn't look like I'm alone in that, but the jazz soundtrack is excellent. If you like melodic, European, jazz with a good balance of composition and improvisation, then check this one out.Swiss pianist George Gruntz leads a band which is most notable, to me, for expatriate American drummer Kenny Clarke, who takes some inspired solos. In full the band is: George Gruntz (piano); Barney Wilen (saxophone); Kenny Clarke (drums); Marcel Peeters, Raymond Court, K.T. Geier. The comparison isn't exact, this is a smaller combo and there's more improv, but the disc reminds me somewhat of Henry Mancini's music for the Peter Gunn television show.
