In a small francophone community in the Acadia region of Nova Scotia, gossip abounds through the lead gossiper, divorcée Anastaisie, closely followed by her friends Agathe and Séraphie. The gossip ratchets up a notch with the arrival back into town of Bernard and Carole, who move into the house next door to Anastaisie. Young adults Bernard and Carole left town three years ago unexpectedly, and have been and are still living in "sin" as they aren't married and have no plans to get married. That is bad enough for Anastaisie, who, through her gossip network, tries to find out what Bernard and Carole are up to, and how local priest, Father Pierre, and Bernard and Carole's respective parents can make them do the right thing. That task becomes a bit more difficult as Father Pierre retires and in his place is young Father Merlin, who the gossips believe is just as amoral as Bernard and Carole largely because of his young age. But as Anastaisie, Agathe and Séraphie witness behavior in Bernard, Carole and Father Merlin they believe will lead to an act totally beyond their moral beliefs, they expand their gossip network and mobilize whomever they can to restore what they consider moral justice in their community.
