El jorobado (Enrique de Lagardere) (1943)
Adventure, Drama • 1h 30m
This lavish, Action-Adventure, period-film by Director Jaime Salvador, is inspired by a novel from author Paul Feval, ( and not the better-known work by Victor Hugo). Nevertheless, it is also set in 18th Century France. Speifically, it focuses on the French Court and features historically accurate sets and costumes. The tale also provides for a large cast of memorable characters, as it chronicles the exploits and adventures of Enrique, (Jorge Negrete), a musketeer-like swordsman out to avenge the death of a close friend. The plot manages to weave in both songs and sword-fights equally well, and includes a crooning "hunch-back", (or "jorobado" in Spanish), who is able to enthrall the nobility with his songs and the ability to read their palms.
