Before the heroic Revolution against the oppressive Ottoman Empire in 1821, Laskarina Pinotsi, the unconventional daughter of Stavrianos and Skevo Pinotsi, senses that war is brewing. Intrigued by the vast sea of Hydra, and after two marriages--one at the age of seventeen with Captain Dimitrios Yanouzas and one at the age of thirty with the affluent shipowner, Dimitrios Bouboulis--Laskarina Bouboulina dedicates her life to the cause, amassing weapons and provisions right under the noses of the Turks. Already a member of the covert Society of Friends organisation, Bouboulina manages to build with personal funds the powerful eighteen-cannon warship, "Agamemnon", the flagship of her fleet, just in time before war breaks out. In 1825, having spent her entire fortune to aid the cause of liberty, the selfless patriot, Admiral Laskarina Bouboulina, dies during a heated conflict in front of her house in the island of Spetses.
