Here's one of the innumerable short subjects put out by Britiswh Rail to convince the public what a wonderful job they were doing. It considers the railroad, bus transportation and the Channel Ferry as exemplars of transportation. and the issue is how do you move the six thousand people who leave work at the same time, when the traffic is unknown? How do he make sure the ferry goets to port on time when a fog may start up just outside Calaid, and end just this side of Dover? How do you blast a million tons of the mountains to make a new tunnel, and the sheep in the next shot -- and presumably the next hill over -- seem blissfully unaware?THese days that's called Complex Systems Analysis, but it's still just as chancy, a matter of by guess and by golly, despite supercomputers.Margot Fleischer is credited as the assistant editor of this movie. She did a very nice job.
