I really liked this mini-film since it looks at the life of a Metis girl living in northern Alberta and all the problems she goes through in her young life. However this story isn't about the kinds of problems that her and her family have. I believe this story is mainly about the racial problems that the RCMP were giving those kids. The cops' ancient mentality prevented them from giving a care about the Metis. As a result, it was the senior officer who didn't do a thing to help save those kids from drowning like that. But at the beginning of the story, the younger cop only played along with his partner because he wanted to fit in and make a good impression with him. But after the young cop met the girl's cousin at her place to apologize for the incident that occurred the previous night, they fell in love almost immediately. At first, their love flourishes since they first started dating. But it was that incident late one night where the 4 kids who left a school dance to drive over that semi-frozen lake and unfortunately lost control of the vehicle and went through the ice. The cops who saw them driving went after them in pursuit to stop them because all 4 of them were packed into front. However the police abandoned the pursuit as soon as they saw driving over the lake. The younger cop insisted that they try and save the kids. But his partner disagreed.... saying that they were "a bunch of hotheads who needed to cool down a bit." There was nothing the other cop could have done but watch on helplessly. As soon as the younger cop's girlfriend found out about it, she was insensed...... especially when she couldn't persuade him to make a public appeal that would have cost the senior officer his job and reputation. That was what destroyed the relationship. Even after trying to attend the wake for those 4 kids didn't work (those 4 guys who stopped him from entering the church knew that he was partly to blame for the whole thing).Well......... anyways........... this was why I gave this program a 9 out of 10.
