Middle aged Montréaler Arthur Smith is taken to his local hospital after he suffers a heart attack while skiing. As concerned as she is for her husband's health, Arthur's wife is equally as concerned about the fact that he was skiing when he was supposed to be working in Toronto. She suspects that he was not alone on this skiing trip. That is indeed true as he was there with his younger mistress Sally Stevens, with whom he is in love. Equally as confusing for Arthur's wife is that their son, Peter Smith, was the one who telephoned her about Arthur being in the hospital. Peter, who was skipping school for the day, ran into Arthur and Sally at the ski hill. Arthur was truthful to his son about the nature of his and Sally's relationship. As Arthur goes through his recovery, he, his wife and his mistress have to confront what to do about their collective futures.
