1918,in the Landes:Anne De La Ferté , a lonely old woman ,in the grand tradition of her village,provides the poor newly weds with a dowry .Hailed as a saint, she remembers her past:after her father's death who squandered his fortune ,her cousin Jacques wanted to marry her,but he clashed with his family's hostility.One of them placed a condition on his marriage: he must spend one year in Haiti ,working in his import -export society, before their wedding.Jacques and Anne swore eternal love .But one year later,the boy married the English consul's daughter,Galswinthe .Anne was desperate ,but four years later,her former fiance got drowned.Later ,his widow, Galswinthe, settled with her lover next to Anne's place .She suffered from TB ,and she wanted to make friends with her late husband's first love.But Anne's thirst for revenge on Galswinthe was undying.
