Kolangal (1981)
Comedy, Drama • 2h 13m
KG George is one director who never fail to impress me. I was searching this movie for a long time. And finally when i watched it, it was worth the waiting. The story revolves around a village and follows the path of a beautiful young innocent woman (Menaka) and how the villagers write her fate. Every character in the film is well written. The characterization in this film is one among the best ever written for Malayalam screen. After watching the film, you will remember every character for a long time. The boat rider Paili, the landlord Nair, the tea shop of keshavan and the rowdy Paramu. The female characters chantha mariya and eliyamma and their disputes stand aside in the film and rajam k nair did a wonderful job enacting maria. Venu nagavally's character drives the film along after the initial stage and all the characters and incidents leads the story into a climax that will give you throat-ache. Once the film is finished you will sit back and wonder about the quality of film you just watched. And you will eventually exclaim why KG George is not making films anymore?
