An independent cinema crew visits a few villages in the remote, mountainous, interior of Portugal near the frontier, during the month of August 1975, when economic emigrants return by the thousands to their hometowns. Their political and religious opinions are clashing with the left wing government in the capital, but marriage ceremonies, catholic corteges, offering of money to the church, and a local bull feast, unite people of all ages and social class.
