A dozen variety artists, under the leadership of the administrator Jean Duroc, ensure a provincial tour whose receipts are not brilliant. During a boating game, fortune teller Monique Darzel and songwriter Pierjan discover an angler who looks like Fernand Raynaud. Duroc, to whom they tell their discovery, has a brilliant idea. He identifies the double, a certain Mr. Gaspard, an official on vacation in a small local boarding house and manages to feel so good about the fate of his troop that Mr. Gaspard finally agrees to lend, for a few days, his physique to the stage - We announce "Fernand Raynaud", which does not fail to increase the receipts. The troupe gives some advice to the star amateur and, the same evening, he appears on stage, decked out in Fernand Raynaud's style. He is doing so well that the public makes him a triumph. This amateurish success annoys the "artists" of the troupe, but it nevertheless assures them of finally getting their fees. However, in Paris, Fernand Raynaud's impresario receives a visit from an Italian producer eager to offer a commitment to the great comic. Fernand Raynaud is on vacation and he asked to be left in peace. The producer insists - The impresario finally gives in and asks the telephone operator to call the star - "You will ask for Mr. Gaspard ..." - The double is none other than Fernand Raynaud himself.
