Jean Cocteau fait du cinéma (1925)
Short
A short film about a famous writer (acted by Cocteau himself) who loses control of his hand and begins to write letters and articles denouncing himself, the film is interesting chiefly as an introduction to some of the ideas that Cocteau would develop in later films. The titles are in Cocteau's characteristic handwriting, the same handwriting that the character uses in the film. Mirrors line the wall of his apartment and reveal hidden messages in his texts. The climax, in which Cocteau struggles to unwrite a confession that he is a fraud, runs backwards. An integral, albeit minor, piece in the great narcissistic puzzle of Cocteau's life's work.
